Indonesia

As the world’s fourth most populous country with abundant but diminishing natural resources, a diverse population fragmented along a volcanic archipelago and 115 million people living on less than $2 a day, Indonesia has a future that is both bright and challenging. BSNI logo

Economic Growth and Trade

Almost half of Indonesians live on less than $2 a day. And despite steady economic growth over the past decade, employment in the formal sector has been stagnant. Low-income families, particularly in rural areas, are not improving their well-being; disparity between high- and low-income groups is increasing.

Priority Sectors

Industry sectors identified so far as priorities for U.S. and Indonesian industry include water and water security; processed food; information technology; and consumer products such as toys. Additional sectors may be added based on interest from the private sector in either country.
